Edina vs Hopkins (last regular season match)

Oct 14th at the Hopkins Lindbergh Center

The Royals varsity swept Edina 3-0
The set scores were 25-8, 25-16, 25-19.

Margins were 17+ 9 + 6 for a margin of 32 points for the match.

The varsity ends the regular season with a record of 15-12 overall.

12 losses sounds like a lot, but 6 of them were: Shakopee, St. Michael-Albertville, Burnsville, Woodbury, Lakeville North and St. Michael-Albertville. All in the top ten in AAA at the time this was written.

Playing easier teams in those 6 matches would have made the record better. But playing the ones they played made our team better.

Their record against conference opponents was 5-3. Giving them sole possession of 2nd place in the Classic Lake conference.

JV won 2-0 (25-19 ,25-17)

They ended the season 15-14 overall, 4-4 in conference.

B squad won 2-0 (25-19,25-19)

I will post their record as soon as I get it.

Here is a message the Coach sent me:

We went 2-1 in pool play beating Champlin park and Richfield both in 2 games, and losing to Eden Prairie.  This put us as the 4th seed overall.  From there we lost to Andover and to Eden Prairie again to get 4th out of 11 teams.  The girls played very well, and we showed some good energy today.  I am very happy with our efforts.

Results from Southwest Minnesota Challenge held at Southwest Minnesota State University and Marshall High School in Marshall MN

The Royals Varsity won their first match against Willmar (25-22, 25-15) Friday night

They lost to St Michael Albertville in their 2nd match on Friday (23-25, 11-25)  STMA was ranked #4 in the state in the coaches association poll on August 1st and went on to win the tournament!

At 9:30 AM on Saturday, the Royals beat Pipestone Area  (25-21, 25-21)

Their next opponent was Burnsville. Hopkins won the first set 25-23, but lost sets 2 and 3. Final scores were (25-23, 23-25,8-15). Brunsville was not ranked in the top ten of the coaches association poll, but was listed as receiving votes.

Then they played the Woodbury Royals. They won the first set again, but lost the next two. (25-17, 17-25, 6-15) Woodbury was ranked #6 in the state in the August 1st poll.

They finished 12th out of 32 teams. They played 3 very tough teams, wining sets from two of them. Great work girls!! We are all very proud of you.

I thought the tournament went very smoothly for doubling in size from last year. (from 16 to 32 teams)

I thought the it would have helped if they had a website to list the results on. (and for me to link to!)

I also found it confusing that the match numbers were not unique, but numbered 1-16 at the SMSU and then 1-16 at the High school. I almost went the wrong court once because of that, other than that it was a very well run tournament.

My own list of the final results from Marshall.
